Municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, draw a Red Line for Gaza.
Millions of Palestinians are trapped under an Israeli-imposed blockade that is leading to acute famine and a dire shortage of food, clean drinking water, and medical care. Every day, Palestinians are deliberately starved. Children are pulled from the rubble, hospitals are destroyed, and entire families are wiped out. And the Israeli government plans to continue its military takeover of Gaza and further expel Palestinians.

This is no ordinary conflict; it is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a people. This is genocide, as numerous international bodies* have already called it.
But until our political leaders take action, we must take action. As we did on May 18 and June 15 at the Red Line Protests : at the largest demonstrations in 20 years, more than 100,000 and 150,000 people respectively called for an end to Dutch complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza. And now we are once again taking massive action across the country.
We demand that our municipality draws a red line and takes action.
Every day we do nothing, people die. Every day we remain silent, we contribute to injustice. The municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn has both the opportunity and the responsibility to send a powerful message. Don't leave the Palestinians alone in their struggle for survival.
Don't let history say that we knew what was happening and did nothing.
Sign this petition. For Gaza, for Palestine. For justice and solidarity. For the soul of our community.
Dutch municipalities can and should make a difference.
New research by SOMO shows that the Netherlands invested over €49 billion in Israel in 2023. This includes investments by Dutch companies in Israel. This makes the Netherlands the largest investor in Israel worldwide. Research by PAX shows that despite the genocide in Gaza, the Netherlands continues to purchase billions worth of weapons from Israel.

As the largest European investor in Israel, the Netherlands has a strategic position and a moral responsibility to pressure Israel to stop the genocide.
Where the government fails to take action, municipalities are responsible for calling on the government and taking measures themselves. Across the Netherlands, people are voicing their dismay: citizens, civil society organizations, and politicians.
We call on our city council to act. It can, it must, and the lack of action is unacceptable. Show moral leadership.
Our demands
We ask the Municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn to:
We ask the Municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn to:
- To speak out publicly about Israel's current actions towards the Palestinian population and to use the term genocide in all external communications, statements and expressions, in line with UN and Amnesty International reports
- To break all municipal cooperation with organizations complicit in human rights violations against Palestinians
- Launch a public awareness campaign to educate municipal residents about human rights violations against Palestinians and what they can do about them.
- And to call on the Dutch government :
- Halt all trade and investments that support Israel's genocide in Gaza and illegal occupation, including a full arms embargo
- To commit to a permanent ceasefire and allow aid and food into Gaza;
- To unconditionally respect the judgments of the International Court of Justice;
*International bodies speak of genocide:
- The International Court of Justice ruled on January 26, 2024, that South Africa's genocide case against Israel is admissible and that there is a "real risk of genocide."
- UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese concluded in March 2024 that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. She stated that the legal threshold for genocide had been crossed and called on states to hold Israel accountable under the Genocide Convention.
- On November 15, 2024, the UN Human Rights Committee also declared that Israel's warfare methods in Gaza are consistent with genocide.
- On December 5, 2024, Amnesty International officially concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, partly due to the extreme death toll, systematic collective punishment, and explicit genocidal language used by Israeli leaders.
- In July 2025, the Israeli NGO B'tselem declared that Israel is systematically committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and that the international community must intervene immediately to stop this genocide.
- In several recent reports, Palestinian human rights organization PCHR has referred to the qualification of genocide according to the legal criteria of the Genocide Convention.
