ERKEN DE OEIGOERSE GENOCIDE
Sluit niet langer de ogen voor een genocide die NU in China plaatsvindt.
Wij roepen de Nederlandse overheid op, met name de Minister President en het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en het ministerie van Ontwikkelingssamenwerking en Buitenlandse Handel, om de misdaden tegen de menselijkheid te erkennen en benoemen als een genocide op de Oeigoeren. Op grond van de Genocide Conventie zou de Nederlandse overheid hier urgente prioriteit aan moeten geven in haar beleid:
1) Spreek de Chinese overheid aan op hun verplichtingen binnen het internationaal recht.
2) Spreek over de Oeigoerse genocide bij fora voor internationale vrede en veiligheid waar Nederland invloed heeft - Raad van Ministers (EU) en de VN Mensenrechtenraad.
3) Stel heldere due diligence op voor bedrijven die afnemen uit China (bedrijven zoals C&A, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas en Nike) om te voorkomen dat in Nederland (of Europese) producten van Oeigoerse dwangarbeid terecht komen.

Stop turning a blind eye to the genocide which is taking place in China NOW.
We call on the Dutch government, in particular the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, to recognize the crimes against humanity being commited against the Uyghurs, and refer to them as a genocide. Under the Genocide Convention, the Dutch government should give urgent priority to this in its policy:
1) Address the Chinese government about their obligations under international law.
2) Speak about the Uyghur genocide at forums for international peace and security where the Netherlands has influence: Council of the European Union and the UN Human Rights Council.
3) Set up clear due diligence for companies that purchase from China (companies such as C&A, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas and Nike), to prevent products of Uyghur forced labor from ending up in the Netherlands (or Europe).
Waarom is het belangrijk?
Misschien heb je al gehoord over de situatie van de Oeigoeren in China. Misschien zag je de reportage die Arjen Lubach vorig jaar maakte, of hoorde je erover op de radio, las je het in de krant of hoorde je erover via andere kanalen. Even een opfrisser:
Miljoenen mensen zitten op dit moment in Oost-Turkestan, Xingjiang is een koloniale term, in China opgesloten in kampen en worden op onmenselijke manier behandeld, alleen op grond van hun etniciteit en religieuze voorkeur. Duizenden Oeigoeren is het gelukt om naar Europa te vluchten, maar hun familieleden zijn in China verdwenen. Keer op keer wordt er aan Chinese ambassades informatie gevraagd, maar er wordt geen gehoor aan gegeven.
Genocide Watch luidde in november 2020 de noodklok: “De Chinese overheid beperkt decennialang op systematische wijze de religieuze, culturele en sociale praktijken van de Oeigoeren en andere minderheden in Xinjiang”. Meer dan een miljoen Oeigoeren en andere moslims zitten opgesloten in strafkampen. Zij worden onderworpen aan de meest ernstige vormen van mensenrechtenschendingen: dwangarbeid, marteling, verkrachting, mishandeling, gedwongen abortussen en sterilisaties, culturele heropvoeding en andere verschrikkingen.
De wereld heeft gezworen ‘nooit meer genocide.’ Maar nu gebeurt het weer, onder onze ogen. Daar mogen we niet voor wegkijken.
Onlangs hebben de VS de misdaden in China als genocide erkend. Als zij het kunnen, kunnen wij het ook! Teken en deel deze petitie, wees solidair met de slachtoffers van deze genocide die nu plaatsvindt.

You may have already heard about the situation of the Uyghurs in China. Maybe you saw the report that Arjen Lubach made last year, read about it in the newspaper, heard about it on the radio or through other channels. In case you haven't, or as a refresher:
Millions of people are currently detained in camps in East-Turkestan, Xinjiang is a colonial name, China and are treated inhumanely based solely on their ethnicity and religious affiliation. Thousands of Uyghurs have managed to flee to Europe, but their relatives have disappeared in China. Time and time again Chinese embassies are asked for information, but the requests are not heeded.
Genocide Watch sounded the alarm in November 2020: "The Chinese government has systematically restricted the religious, cultural and social practices of the Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang for decades." More than a million Uyghurs and other Muslims are held in penal camps. They are subject to the most serious forms of human rights violations: forced labor, torture, rape, beatings, forced abortions and sterilizations, and cultural re-education, as well as many other horrors.
The world has sworn: "no more genocide." But it is happening again, right now, in front of our eyes. We cannot turn our backs on this!
Recently, the US has recognized the situation in East-Turkestan as a genocide. If they can do it, we can too! Sign and share this petition and show solidarity with the victims of this genocide that is taking place at this very moment!
